Re: Trinity Road, Harrow Hill – road safety and visibility concern

Thank you for your response.

I believe there may have been a misunderstanding regarding the location and nature of my concern.

This is not a request for a mirror to assist visibility from a private driveway. The location concerned is a public-road T-junction, where Oakland Road meets Trinity Road at Harrow Hill.

I appreciate the information you have provided regarding Gloucestershire County Council's policy on traffic mirrors. However, my principal concern is not the mirror itself; it is the extremely restricted visibility for vehicles emerging from this public junction.

I have attached photographs taken from a vehicle approaching and using the junction.

The photographs show that when a vehicle is positioned at the junction markings, visibility along Trinity Road is extremely limited. In order to obtain a sufficient view of approaching traffic, the vehicle has to move considerably further forward and effectively begin entering Trinity Road before the driver can see clearly in either direction.

The cone shown in one of the photographs marks the area where the previous mirror was situated.

If Highways' policy means that the former mirror cannot be reinstated, I completely understand that this may not be an available solution. However, that does not resolve the underlying road-safety issue.

I would therefore be grateful if Highways could arrange for the actual sight lines at this public-road junction to be assessed, preferably from the position of a driver at the junction, and advise what alternative measures could be considered to improve visibility.

These might include, for example, management or cutting back of vegetation, alterations to the sight line, signage, road markings or any other measure Highways considers appropriate.

My concern is simply that at present a driver has to edge their vehicle into the path of traffic on Trinity Road before they can establish whether the road is clear. I am worried that this presents a foreseea
