Position of parking bay

The position of the parking bay at the corner of Churchfields Road and Old School Close (as you can see in the photo), is causing a very dangerous obstruction of view when trying to pull out from Old School Close. Often very large vehicles park on this end bay and it’s impossible to see around it to pull out safely. More often than not, vehicles are travelling at great speed and above 30 mph limit and near collisions happen regularly. I myself have had many near misses. I feel the bay is too close to the junction and this last bay should be removed. Thank you

  • Thank you for your email regarding the parking bay at the junction of Churchfields Road and Old School Close. We appreciate your concerns about visibility when emerging from Old School Close, particularly when larger vehicles are parked in the bay closest to the junction. The Council has reviewed this location and, at present, it does not meet the criteria for additional parking restrictions or other engineering measures. We monitor locations where personal injury collisions have occurred and prioritise improvements where there is a demonstrated road safety problem. This junction does not feature on our collision review programme and there is no recorded pattern of injury collisions that would indicate a need for further intervention. Whilst we acknowledge that visibility can sometimes be reduced by parked vehicles and that drivers may need to exercise additional caution when emerging from the side road, this is not uncommon at many junctions across the road network. The junction is already protected by double yellow lines immediately adjacent to the corner, and we do not consider there to be sufficient road safety or operational justification to extend these restrictions further by removing the existing parking bay. For these reasons, we will not be progressing any changes at this location at the present time.
