Shire Lane - Litter

Adroddwyd drwy mobile yn y categori Environmental Services yn ddienw am 13:31, Dydd Sul 1 Chwefror 2026 using FixMyStreet Pro

Anfon at Bromley Council 1 diwrnod, 23 awr, 56 munud yn hwyrach. Cyfeirnod FixMyStreet: 8813544.

Report relates to the FULL length of Shire Lane, from junc with Farnborough Hill then west towards Junc with New Road Hill (Holwood Farm).

The roadside litter along Shire Lane is embarrassingly awful. Judging by the state of it (as seen this morning) there clearly hasn’t been litter clearance or roadside/gully sweeping for a very long time.

Litter permeates gully's/roadsides, roadside banks and verges, grass areas, roadside woodland edges etc.

Please can you attend/put a plan in place to clear Shire Lane of litter as the neglect is visible.

  • Thank you for using FMS - The lane will only be litter picked under the control of traffic management and at this time, we are not able to say when that will be. This report will now be closed as no action will be taking place until that time.

  • Thank you for the response.

TBH I’m struggling to understand how Shire Lane has been allowed to deteriorate to this extent in the first place.

The volume of litter - particularly embedded in gullies/kerb lines near the North Lane junction, and throughout the verges and banks - strongly suggests that neither litter clearance nor gully sweeping has taken place for a considerable period. This isn’t a sudden issue that requires traffic management to address; it’s the visible result of no cleaning regime whatsoever.

I’d welcome clarification on: - When Shire Lane was last subject to gully sweeping or roadside cleansing - How country lanes of this nature are monitored to prevent them reaching this condition - Why the response appears to be a simple “no action” closure rather than a proactive plan or timeframe.

Closing the report with a “computer says no” approach doesn’t reflect a solution-focused or responsible approach to maintaining the borough’s rural roads, particularly when the problem is plainly visible and ongoing.

I’d appreciate this being reconsidered, with a clearer explanation of how and when this stretch of road will actually be addressed.

    Many thanks.
