Light cone incursion on homes
Adroddwyd drwy mobile yn y categori Other Lighting Issue yn ddienw am 13:41, Dydd Iau 13 Tachwedd 2025 using FixMyStreet Pro
Anfon at Oxfordshire County Council llai na munud yn hwyrach. Cyfeirnod FixMyStreet: 8414537.
Specified streetlamp's light cone is too wide, and lamp too bright for the footpath. As a result, neighbouring homes receive strong direct light directly into bedrooms.
Entire garden perimeter, including around 20 houses, is illuminated.
Would it be possible to switch it off?

Thank you for your enquiry. I am afraid we can not turn the light off as it is there to light the public highway (footpath). This is for the safety of all users of the footpath during the hours of darkness. We have a duty to maintain existing public streetlighting.
Our records indicate that the lantern there has been in place since 2018. Also that is does already dim down slightly (to 75% of its full brightness) between the hours of 10am and 6pm.
Could we please ask what has caused you to request this turn off now? E.g., has the lantern been changed and become much brighter recently?
Also, if you wouldn't mind could you let us know which property you live in and if there are specific windows, or other parts of your property, that you feel are being adversely affected? We might then be able to shield light from that spot upsetting or other residents or reducing the lights usefulness to footpath users.
Many thanks.

I appreciate the very timely response!
Took some pictures. Please note these were taken at 4:30'pm. Still before sunset. (Towards north from the lamppost)
My neighbour's houses here receive direct, strong light directly into their bedrooms. Mine is some next house there, and from every location in my garden, there is a dazzling night all throughout the night.
Even gardens at the end of this garden section (beginning of Edinburgh Close) are illuminated. More than 95% of this lamppost's illumination is at multitude of back gardens.
I believe I've provided all the material needed, so I will now cease bothering you :) Leaving this at authority's discretion.
Again, thank you for consideration of tnis matter and have a good weekend. MS
