Dear Public Rights of Way Team,
I’m writing on behalf of a group of local riders based near Fiddington. With the ongoing housing developments and infrastructure expansion around Tewkesbury and Ashchurch, traffic levels on the surrounding roads have started to increase, and safe off-road routes for equestrians are becoming more limited.
At present, there are very few bridleways directly accessible from the Fiddington area, and most existing routes require riders to travel along or cross roads where traffic is increasing. We would therefore be grateful if the council could consider whether there are any opportunities to improve bridleway access to the east of Fiddington, towards Oxenton and Gotherington, where the land remains largely rural and could provide safer riding options away from housing construction and traffic.
There are several public footpaths in this area which appear on the map (attached) — if any of these could be considered for upgrading to bridleways, that would make a huge difference to local riders and improve overall network connectivity.
Please see the attached map for reference; the X marks the approximate location of our yard, the pink lines show existing bridleways, and the red lines show the existing footpaths.
If there are any current plans, consultations, or ways for the local equestrian community to support or feed into this process, we would be very interested in being involved.
Kind regards,
Ellie Mitchell
