Removing the dead braches over the footpath

Thank you for your considered reply to my last report on this tree. I understand that no permission is needed for me to remove these dead branches myself. Can you confirm this is the situation? The 2 branches are about 3 meters long and about 70mm in diameter, although it is difficult to judge from the ground. Having lived next to these trees for 40 years, I have experienced these branches falling many times each season, posing a risk to pedestrians and damaging cars below them. It would be unfortunate if this known, predictable risk occurred because a simple 1-minute job was deemed not a high priority.

    Thanks for your enquiry regarding a Council owned tree.

    A qualified tree surveyor has assessed your request and following a site visit has recommended works. On completion of the works you may feel the task undertaken may not fully address the issue raised. Aragon Direct Services employ qualified tree surveyors to undertake the inspections and all works recommended are in accordance within the guidance contained within the Peterborough Tree & Woodland Strategy 2018-2028.

    Continued management of all our trees forms an integral part of this strategy. All Council owned trees are surveyed by a qualified surveyor for safety every one-to-five years, depending on how much the area surrounding them is used. Where inspection identifies maintenance work it is scheduled in accordingly with safety issues forming the highest priority.

    The works order has now been issued to the contractor and they will endeavour to have this completed within 40 working days. For info, timescales for completion are currently slightly extended due to a backlog of works at present
