Are there any plans to do something about the ridiculous bottleneck on Hitchcock Way ? The amount of traffic entering the Orchard Centre, which gets backed up because of the poor entrance design, jams the road back almost to the Army barracks at times, and regularly as far as Didcot Parkway station.Traffic trying to get through towards the Jubilee roundabout are unable to because of the excessively wide footpaths on each side and the squeezing of 2 lanes into one. Cars regulary drive up onto the footpath to get past. This issue has been going on for years, but with the increasing traffic in Didcot due to the number of new houses, this is becoming a real problem and is jamming up the town. There is a very simple fix - slightly reduce the excessive width of the footpath/cycle path on each side to allow the road to be slightly wider. These paths do not need to be anywhere near as wide as they are, and would allow traffic which is not going to the Orchard Centre to freely flow through. This is a solution which everyone in Didcot can see, but nothing is ever done. Why anyone thought this was a good road design is a mystery.

We are investigating this location for any outstanding defects, however if you would like to see larger changes we would suggest you raise your concerns with the local town council as they are better positioned to know to the plans and impacts on the surrounding traffic network.
