  • Many thanks for your enquiry.

The Council’s street cleansing service provider, Veolia, undertakes a course of three weed treatment applications on hard surface areas to keep our highway free from weeds. We are responsible for weed control across the 850 miles of footway, 525 miles of carriageway and 54 miles of footpaths throughout the borough.

The formulation we use to achieve this is ‘Trustee Amenity’ and an adjuvant ‘Codacide’, a vegetable oil, which helps with spray drift suppression and rain fastness.

Both products are described as ‘clean’ label, meaning they are not required to carry any hazard warning labels, unlike many common household chemicals. Both products have been independently assessed by the UK Chemical Regulator, HSE Chemical Regulation Division, and other regulators worldwide, and all agree they are of low toxicity and minimal environmental impact, and are not harmful to animals and can be safely used in open areas. Full COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) assessments are undertaken prior to any use. Both products carry no hazard classification as concentrates, and are further diluted for application.
