For the third time in three months, the ditch has burst its bank due to insufficient drainage and the pipe under the road's inability to withstand the rain.

We defended our drive on this occasion from the start as we have had no support from the Council yet. The flooding has been damaging our premises and livestock, and we can't afford for it to happen again.

The water now pours down the road for a good 500m or more, at depths of over 7cm in many places. If temperatures drop and it freezes, this will be a serious hazard, as it is a busy road for walkers, horses, and cars.

  • Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.

    We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.

    Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.

    Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently.
