Cars blocking access to our gate

Adroddwyd drwy mobile yn y categori Roads yn ddienw am 14:30, Dydd Gwener 24 Ionawr 2025 using FixMyStreet Pro

Anfon at Bristol City Council llai na munud yn hwyrach. Cyfeirnod FixMyStreet: 7027761.

Cars are parking here, which means it’s very difficult to get in and out of our private gate due to the angle we have to go in and out at. There appears to be double yellow lines that are faded and no tickets seem to be issued. It’s very stressful and today I am 40 weeks pregnant and can’t get my car out of the car park due to the amount of cars parked, I’m stressed as I may need to go to the hospital but can’t get the car out. Can we get the double yellows out back in?

  • MOTORISTS are parking

Please report these motorists to the police, they are breaking the law by: 1. Driving on the pavement 2. Causing a dangerous obstruction to pedestrians

Call 101. Option 1. Be sure to get an “incident reference number” so that you can follow this up.

  • Thanks for the advise. How would we go about getting the yellow lines redrawn or new ones put in? Everyday we have 5-10 cars parked down there as they have worked out they can park for free and as it’s so close to town they leave their cars and go to work. It’s a nightmare for everyone that lives around here. It appears there are yellow lines there, they are just very worn, which is why people are getting away with it and making it very difficult for us. If the lines were redrawn it would make a very big difference as we can’t call the police everyday to get cars removed as it’s a waste of public resource.

  • Have a look on the council website for requesting double yellow lines. As the double yellow lines already exist, there won’t be any bureaucracy to overcome, just cost and resource.

  • Everyday we are having to call the police to get them to move cars. We have tried calling the traffic wardens multiple times but every time they say the lines are too faded for them to enforce it. We can never get out of our gate and the situation is getting worse. It’s causing me anxiety as I have a newborn and feel trapped in my own home.

  • Do the police do anything about it? Are these drivers repeat offenders?

  • The police say that we need to contact the council to get the yellow lines put back in. There are quite a few cars that are the same ones everyday but also have new ones. Sometimes it’s 10-15 cars parked there as they realise it’s free and they won’t get a ticket.

  • Yes, the double yellow lines are completely ineffective, but these motorists are still breaking the law by: 1. Driving on the pavement 2. Causing a dangerous obstruction to pedestrians

Call 101. Option 1. Be sure to get an “incident reference number” so that you can follow this up.

  • I have done that and everyday I call 101 to report it, but it’s inefficient having to do this everyday and also a waste of public resource. What is the best course of action to get the yellow lines redrawn?

  • Not that I am aware. Everyday I call and they say they will send someone down but often the police arrive in the evening when the cars are gone. It’s in the day that it’s the worst as people can park for free and go to work. The only effective way of getting this resolved is by putting the yellow lines back in so that the traffic wardens can fine these people in the future. We have spoken to traffic wardens so many times and they agree they would fine them but say they currently have no way to do so as the lines are so worn away that it’s improbable to.
