  • Over 3 mile queues this week back to faringdon, lights letting 6-8 cars through at a time taking 40-45 minutes to travel 4 miles from Faringdon to Shrivenham

  • Council needs to be less lazy and actually do some work

  • This is major A road from Swindon to Oxford - traffic lights are causing major delays yet again on this road. What is the hold up with replacing a manhole cover ? When can we expect the work to be completed?

Postiwyd yn ddienw am 20:38, Mer 27 Tachwedd 2024

  • If this is emergency repair works why have these ‘temporary’ lights been up for over a week with no sign of any work whatsoever the alternative is to doge potholes in Longcot and drive through floodwater ? It’s a manhole cover?

Postiwyd yn ddienw am 21:07, Mer 27 Tachwedd 2024

  • One week today since the issue was reported and the sum total of the work carried out is: traffic lights and cones. Just in case OCC/Highways are unaware, this is a major route and the 'alternative' routes cannot cope with the amount of traffic being forced upon them. Is there any chance that the issue can be fixed (or at least work can commence) at any point in the near future?

  • I have just taken an hour and 15 minutes to travel from Church street in Faringdon to Shrivenham 100 business park, a normal journey time of nine minutes. As I had the opportunity to sit and count these lights which have sat here for over a week now as zero works take place are letting 10 vehicles through towards Shrivenham and 30 from Shrivenham towards Faringdon, this has now caused 4 miles queues alternative routes are blocked because of ice and accidents caused by flooding and unrepaired potholes this manhole needs fixing as a priority and not the same Level of priority as the 417 at Challow which remains unrepaired for 18months

  • The blockage on the A420 caused by the temporary traffic lights is now causing accidents on the back roads between Longcot and Fernham because of the increased volume of traffic. While replacing a manhole cover is important, it surely shouldn't take this long.

  • Because of these traffic lights and traffic so bad people are seeking alternative routes, an accident has happened on the narrow lanes with a lorry, causing absolute bedlam this morning. My child was late for school along with the rest of her taxi and no doubt many others! BECAUSE of these traffic lights! A simple replacement of ironworks should be done immediately, especially one that has collapsed 3 times in the past 10 years, surely you have the piece in stock and not having to forge it yourselves OCC?

  • I have rang the council today about this as its a joke and they say works are due to start on 6th Jan 2025 and run until 7th Feb 2025 !!!!

Postiwyd yn ddienw am 15:39, Iau 28 Tachwedd 2024

  • Two months to fix a manhole cover!?

And you’re just gonna to leave the badly timed lights sitting there for another two months!?

Some of us need to earn a living you know? Rather than sitting at home faffing about working out how to replace a manhole cover?

Perhaps someone at OCC could Google it?

Does it need to be forged privately on a virgin maidens knee and can only arrive by row a boat from the Christmas islands ? On the third full moon of the new year ?

  • The continued blockage of this major thoroughfare is unacceptable. The road has been blocked for a week now with absolutely no sign of repair. Where is the council? If this were inconveniencing anyone on the council in Oxford, I am sure it would have been fixed already. Not only does this cause inconvenience to the thousands who have to travel this road, it is hazardous. This morning, I witnessed two separate accidents on narrow, windy back roads as people sought alternative routes. How long before someone is injured? Will that be what it takes for the council to finally do their job?

Response Times Defects are categorised according to their risk level as identified from the risk matrix. They will be attended to within the following timescales: Category 1A defects: 2 hours Category 1B defects: 24 hours Category 2 defects: 28 days Category 3 defects: Programmed repair or monitor Figure 2 In general a permanent repair is preferred to rectify the defect, but in some instances this will not be possible. If a temporary repair is made, then the timescale allowed for a permanent repair is extended to the next response interval. However it will not be acceptable to leave an urgent defect with signing and guarding (i.e. an immediate “make safe” response) for 28 days without permanent repair.

  • This is a great example of why productivity in the U.K. is so low - rows of self employed drivers trying to get to do deliveries from Amazon warehouse let alone all the trucks and the rest of us trying to make a living - authorities should hang their heads in shame

  • Is there room for two way traffic if the manhole is segregated?

Can't some sort of temporary heavy cover be put over whole manhole and reduce speed to say 20mph. At least keep traffic flowing. OCC This needs fixing urgently or better mitigation in the meantime time.

Postiwyd yn ddienw am 19:17, Iau 28 Tachwedd 2024

  • This is a main route. Why can you place a metal sheet over the sunken drain cover until work can be action. This would remove the need for traffic lights and major delays.

Postiwyd yn ddienw am 07:40, Gwen 29 Tachwedd 2024

  • Rumour has it, these will be in situ until January 2025, when works to repair the same manhole cover, which fails every year will commence.

A ridiculous situation on a major A-road, causing massive delays and also causing other routes to be used by inappropriate vehicles.

Postiwyd yn ddienw am 09:43, Gwen 29 Tachwedd 2024

  • This is a major road, it is unbelievable that this is not a priority to fix. Please repair as soon as possible .

Postiwyd yn ddienw am 11:23, Gwen 29 Tachwedd 2024

  • Occ managed to replace a missing cover less than 2 miles away in just a couple of days, this is ridiculous!

Postiwyd yn ddienw am 16:34, Gwen 29 Tachwedd 2024

  • Traffic flowing both ways this evening. No lights. It might be fixed
