Addendum to "Extremely dangerous junction for cyclists"

Adroddwyd drwy mobile yn y categori General road marking and stud issues gan Keith Swinford am 09:56, Dydd Iau 24 Hydref 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Anfon at Gloucestershire County Council llai na munud yn hwyrach. Cyfeirnod FixMyStreet: 6652864.

Addendum for extra details.

The problem here is one of visibility. Due to a wall and cars parked on the other side of it and the curve of the road, particularly at night, visibility to the north east when driving out of Sandycroft Road is almost zero. The give way line is in such a position that it's impossible to see any cyclists on the track. (Visibility south west is not an issue).

On three occasions since the roadworks were completed, I have been close to collision on my left wing due to sudden appearance of the cyclists. On all three, I have backed off, and on two of those occasions the cyclists have given me a wave of thanks and all has passed safely, but last time I took abuse from a man who didn't realise the dangers.

Cyclists using the cycle track, particularly at speed, have no idea that they can't be seen and we have no idea that they are there.

Right of way is clearly marked, but it is a fatality waiting to happen, and this is probably an issue on other junctions too. Maybe a yellow box marking would help to focus the cyclists mind.

I'm not sure that ignoring this, at the cost of a human life is the right thing to do.
