Mopeds using footpath
Adroddwyd drwy mobile yn y categori Public Right of Way footpath yn ddienw am 15:33, Llun 15 Gorffennaf 2024
Anfon at Bromley Council llai na munud yn hwyrach. Cyfeirnod FixMyStreet: 6232041.
There has issues regarding the alley between Ravensbourn Rd and Ridley Rd for a number of years with mopeds using the alley way as a cut through. This has caused a number of people to be injured and children put at risk.
Barriers were installed however they're are the wrong design and still allow mopeds to get through. I have asked for a re design but have been told no due to a need for wheelchairs and prams to get through which I understand. However, there are plenty of barrier in alleys which addresses both issues. The issue of the mopeds is obviously recognised as barrier were installed and this is still the case. The problem and danger has not been solved.

Legislation denotes that sufficient width is allowed for wheelchairs and pram access to these footpaths. There is no mechanism to further restrict the widths of barriers. We take safety seriously and have passed details of these moving vehicle violations onto Met Police colleagues for their awareness and support stopping this ongoing Anti Social Behaviour

The width of the barrier is not the reason it doesn't work, it's the shape of it. If you are struggling with this I am more than happy to help or happy to contact the policing team who target environmental development to prevent grime.
All this requires is for you to take some advice rather than pushing back on it. The issue is not going to go away on its own.

The problem is still there and it seems the council are avoiding the very obvious issue of the design and hide behind regulations of access. With a different design both regulations and issues can be met.

The barrier installations fall inline with BS5709 2018. Some barriers installed pre Standards change have widths of 100cm. The 2018 standard revision changed the minimum width to 110cm. We are aware that this width may not prevent all motorbike access and work with Met Police colleagues to target hotspots where this Anti Social Behaviour is present, as in this instance.

Again the report has been closed on the bases or regulations.
Not sure else I can put it but it's the design/layout of the barriers.
