Green Lane concrete drain channel between pavement and grass verge blocked with soil and verge growth between Westhurst Drive and pavement gulley drain by 100 Green Ln. During recent heavy rain, water flooding across pavement and flowing down the hill with most missing pavement gulley surface drains by 112 and 100 Green Lane (N.B. Both these drains look blocked). Most of the runoff water entering driveway(s) and gardens. This issue has become noticeable worse over the last six months and now, even with moderate rainfall, is causing flooding into adjacent properties.

Only the pavement drain adjacent to 100 Green Lane was cleared today (22 July)! As described in the original entry (6204734) the problem is much wider and includes a second blocked drain situated between the pavement and grass verge adjacent to 112 Green Lane and the obscured drain channel (between grass verge and pavement) that runs down the hill between these two drains. The open U-shaped concrete channel is completely overgrown and blocked the whole length by the grass verge causing rain/surface water runoff to overspill on to the pavement and run down the hill leaving a trail of silt and mud across the pavement (shown in photos) and floods into the front gardens of a number of properties that lie below the level of the pavement. Without the verge drain channel being cleared neither of the drains function as originally designed. Are these hillside pavement drains and channels on the drainage department maps?

From the initial report, this problem has always been about the overgrown/blocked pavement drainage channel between pavement and verge that is essential to feed water into the two pavement gulley drains. Just unblocking the pavement gulley drain (shown on attached sketch, adjacent to 100) has no impact on surface water removal as it is by-passed due to the blocked feeder channel drain. This also goes for the pavement drain near 112 mentioned in the first report - this is still blocked, as the channel linking it to the one by 100. Without clearing the whole 90 m long connecting channel shown in photos and attached sketch map, this hill side pavement drainage system isn’t functional – causing flooding down the pavement into properties. The situation is made worse (previously mentioned) by surface water running off the road down the inclined pavement crossovers onto to the pavement rather than into the purpose built - currently blocked – drainage channel designed to feed the additional pavement gulleys installed only on this stretch of the road.

Thanks for the detailed information - arrangements will be made to clear the length of the channel between 100 - 116 Green Lane. The contractors will also be instructed to return and clean the other pavement gully outside 112 - this will be done once the channel has been cleared.

The first rainfall following clearance of both pavement gulley drains (100 and 112 Green Ln) and the connecting open pavement drain channel has revealed further flooding problems. See diagram and photos. Backflow from 112 GL road gulley into the connected lower pavement gulley caused road surface water to flood into the pavement channel. This in turn overloaded the pavement channel causing overspill of the 100GL pavement gully drain. This drain’s metal grill is higher than the feeder channel causing some of the flow (and silt) to bypass the functioning drain and flood the pavement.

After rain on 24August sewer manhole in centre of road adjacent 112 Green Ln erupting with "water" ( see photos) adding to flooding from road and pavement gulleys leading to excessive surace flow to drain at 100GL that continues to overflow into adjacent properties
