Even bigger and more dangerous potholes

Adroddwyd drwy mobile yn y categori Road Defect yn ddienw am 17:36, Llun 15 Ebrill 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Anfon at Bromley Council llai na munud yn hwyrach. Cyfeirnod FixMyStreet: 5856570.

Since previously reported nothing has yet been done to address the numerous, large and dangerous potholes that have developed here. They are now bigger and deeper and even more treacherous for road users as cars are serving to the other side of the narrow lane to avoid hitting them and damaging their cars. Our MOTs ensure our cars are road worthy but Bromley roads are not car worthy.

  • Incredibly dangerous and large pot holes that have been there for far too long! Fix them now! I have to go on the other side of the road to avoid them. This whole road needs resurfacing urgently! We pay road tax for what?

  • Nothing has been done about this and there are now craters, so you have stop in the road in order to avoid hitting a huge hole. Road surface has collapsed, cavern around a drain, then damaged road surface that extends many metres. It isn't just one area that needs fixing but a whole stretch.

  • Scheduled repairs to be completed next week under proposed road closure.

  • There are numerous potholes along both sides of Shire Lane but the longest/biggest/most dangerous are in the stretch about 200 yards west of North End Lane (heading from Green Street Green towards Leaves Green) where the side of the road has collapsed, and similar about 100 yards further on with dangerous potholes/collapsed drains

  • On 20th May it was stated that works were scheduled for ”next week”. No sign of anything happening yet. Please update.

Postiwyd yn ddienw am 14:12, Mer 29 Mai 2024

  • It looks as if a small stretch of the collapsed left hand side of the road 200 yards or so past north end road has been repaired, but not the largest and most damaged part, and no advance warning or any sign of the road being closed for extensive repairs. I genuinely don't understand why Bromley Council can't explicitly state when this scheduled for, surely your crew/contractors must schedule such work days, if not weeks, in advance given the backload of repairs they face ?

Postiwyd yn ddienw am 12:21, Gwen 31 Mai 2024

  • Bromley council obviously monitor this site (occasionally) because they (occasionally) update it.

Having advised (see above) that road works to address the serious pothole problems were scheduled for week commencing 27th May, when they did not take place why did the council not provide an update ?

Does the council a) simply identify where there are problems, possibly with a priority marking, and then allow the contractors to decide when to schedule the work, or b) does the council also schedule when it should be done ? I assume it is a), but in either event why can't the schedulers advise this website, in advance, of the SPECIFIC day it is scheduled for, with an updated schedule if it slips, rather than simply complete silence ?

  • Thank you for your further comments regarding this issue. Bromley are aware of the significant volume of works raised and outstanding with our contractor and we are continuing to monitor and liaise with them over this outstanding schedule of works. Our Officers are not able to give precise timeframes to individual jobs at this moment but are continuing to undertake regular safety inspections and check any reported issues. We will continue to work with our contractor to ensure that all outstanding jobs are addressed as quickly as they are able.

  • There was a bloke (hopefully a Bromley council employee/contractor identifying near future work) spray painting white marks around some of the Shire Lane potholes this afternoon, but only a few of them, and not the worst/biggest ones ? Bottom line - I wouldn't hold your breath for any proper fix.

  • Last Friday the road was closed (for gas works) from the roundabout at the junction of Heathfield road and Westerham road all the way down the hill to the roundabout at the junction of Downe road and Leaves Green road (and may still be today). If the council had got its act together that would have been a perfect time to have temporarily closed Shire Lane and fixed all the long outstanding pothole/drain collapsing/road collapsing problems there, but left hand/right hand and they didn't

Postiwyd yn ddienw am 10:23, Llun 24 Mehefin 2024

  • There has clearly been a partial fix to some of the pothole/drain collapse/roadside collapse problems long reported under this reference, and a number of others, but, given that the road was apparently closed for a time to allow this to happen, why oh why did the repair crew not do a total repair job ? I'm not suggesting retarmac the whole of Shire Lane, although there are issues along almost the whole length, but at least fix all the major serious issues on both sides of the road rather than just some of them; the council thinking behind just doing a partial fix is beyond me, especially given the wait time involved in undertaking these repairs

  • Several stretches of Shire Lane have been repaired over the past few months, but there are still two existing noticeably dangerous trenches either side of the road, each about 10 feet in length and about 9 inches in depth between the white line and the grass verge, about 150 yards west of North End Lane heading from Green Street Green towards Leaves Green There is very little room to manoeuvre regarding on coming traffic along the majority of Shire Lane, and for safety reasons one is often forced to drive on the white lines, so it would be very helpful if these road defects could be repaired

  • On a different report that I submitted for the same issue, it was stated that the work was scheduled “weather permitting” for 4th October (if my memory is correct). The weather was good at that time but still no work was carried out.
