Tree management issue in conservation area near Locksbrook Cemetery Lodge

We would like to bring an urgent safety issue to your attention regarding a tree on council owned land, within the cemetery and conservation area on the Upper Bristol Road. Tree adjacent to our boundary wall is causing the crack in this wall. Additionally, our sewer is blocked with tree roots, causing sewage to back up into our shower. We have remedied the immediate issue of having sewage in our shower. We are also in the process of getting a quote to clear the sewer properly and already have a quote for mending the large crack in the wall. However, the issues will re-occur if the tree itself is not managed properly. We are very concerned that if the crack in the wall progresses much further, the wall is at risk of falling over, potentially causing injury. The health implications of having sewage in the shower of a holiday let is not an issue we wish to repeat either. We have attached images of the tree, the crack in the wall and the tree roots in the sewer.   • The cracked boundary wall of the cemetery has been reported to the council's Property Services to investigate. Tree roots will only grow into an underground pipe that is already cracked.

  • Given that the tree roots have cracked the entire boundary wall, it is reasonable to assume that they have cracked the sewer pipe as well.
