A814 road surface breaking up

Adroddwyd drwy desktop yn y categori Roads/highways yn ddienw am 13:19, Mer 29 Mawrth 2023

Anfon at Glasgow City Council llai na munud yn hwyrach. Cyfeirnod FixMyStreet: 4372585.

The vibrations and noise caused by HGVs along this residential stretch is bad enough without the added thuds of heavy wheels in craters.

With the volume and weight of traffic (8 million vehicles a year) it seems to need resurfaced every 6 months.

Accordingly, you need to inspect other sections of the A814 along Victoria Park Drive South in case of similar deterioration. (And remove the long-forgotten and now collapsed 'temporary' 20mph Skid Warning sign.)

There has been no charge for this report though I expect a deduction in my council tax being the council's unpaid eyes (yet again)...

  • 24 hours later, a council van-man seen walking the overgrown grass verge (note: no safety vehicle or lane closures needed, just a high-viz vest & breeks) & presumably was checking the flagged, road-surface damage. Thanks.

Watch this space for what happens next...

  • 17th April 2023 - "The job is still open" with no word on when it will be closed.

  • 2 men x 1/2 hr, cheap cold asphalt 'repairs' done. Very poor quality finish which - unsurprisingly - still allows water to pool and will erode the surface again very quickly. I give it 4 months max.

'Do it once, do it right' was supposedly the new council mantra. Aye right. A farce.

  • Looks like the council are satisfied with their half-baked job. Let the deterioration continue then until they have no option left but to do it right. (They have now raided community money to tune of £6m to carry out repairs when pro-active maintenance would have obviated same...) Duh.

  • Call me a soothsayer (else it was blindingly obvious to everyone but the council) but those cold tar 'repairs' have indeed failed. Road now re-inspected and paint-marked off for, presumably, proper repairs. More wasted time, energy & money thus from GCC. They never learn.
