URGENT - drains/gullies are not being properly cleaned or maintained

The drains outside Glencarn House & New House. URGENT COMPLAINT – REPEATED FLOODING ON HILLCREST ROAD

I am writing to make a formal complaint regarding the ongoing and repeated flooding on Hillcrest Road, opposite the cul-de-sac.

This has been an issue for years, and I simply do not understand why the underlying problem has still not been properly identified and resolved. The situation has now become extremely serious, as floodwater is entering our properties.

The drains/gullies do not appear to be coping and need to be properly inspected, cleared and maintained. The council has already raised the kerb, but this has made absolutely no difference and the area continues to flood. If anything, this demonstrates that the underlying drainage problem has not been addressed.

It is completely unacceptable that residents have been dealing with the same issue for years, with no effective, permanent solution. We pay council tax and expect basic services such as drainage and highway maintenance to be properly managed.

How many more floods will it take before this is taken seriously? We should not have to wait for significant damage to our homes before urgent action is taken.

Please confirm:

* When the affected drains/gullies were last properly cleaned and inspected. * What investigations have been carried out over the past three years. * Why raising the kerb was considered an appropriate solution when it has made no difference. * What action will now be taken to prevent floodwater entering our properties. * When this work will be carried out.

This is now an urgent matter and requires immediate investigation and action. We need a proper, permanent solution rather than further temporary measures that clearly aren’t working.

I look forward to receiving an urgent response and confirmation of what action will be taken.

Diweddariadau

  • Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.

We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.

Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.

Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently. You can find out more, including the gully emptying schedule on our website by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/highways/roads/road-maintenance

If your property is at risk of flooding please see the Flood Guide for advice and support by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/flood-risk-management/flooding-information/flood-guide

If you are driving: please never ignore road closures or enter flood water. This could put you or others in danger and invalidate your insurance.

We will provide updates about this report. Thank you again for taking the time to report this issue.
